A massive festival dedicated to Canada’s most iconic gooey treat is returning to Ontario this spring, and it’s a must-visit for anyone with a serious sweet tooth.
For over a decade, Ontario’s Best Butter Tart Festival has been the ultimate destination for pastry lovers, transforming the small lakeside town of Midland into a sugar-filled paradise. Recognized as one of the top festivals in the province, this one-day event is the largest of its kind in the world, proving that we Canadians take our butter tarts very seriously.

On June 13, 2026, the downtown core and scenic waterfront parks will be taken over by more than 230 vendors and food trucks. You can expect to find a mind-blowing 300,000 butter tarts available for purchase, ranging from the classic “purist” styles to some truly wild inventions. Whether you’re firmly Team PB&J butter tart or believe that pecans are the only acceptable add-in, there’s a tart here with your name on it.
Another highlight of the event is the Egg Farmers of Ontario Butter Tart Contest. Held at the Midland Cultural Centre, this high-stakes competition sees professional and amateur bakers battle it out for the title of “Best in Show.”

Visitors can head to Rotary Hall to watch the judges, including notable Toronto chefs), taste their way through hundreds of entries. If you’re lucky, you might even get to snag a sample of the competing tarts yourself.
Beyond the sugar rush, the festival offers a full day of free entertainment. You can catch live music on the Harbourside Park stage, explore the handmade goods at the artisan market, or let the little ones burn off their energy at the dedicated Kids Zone.
