The official start to fall is less than a month away, and if we pay mind to the latest long-range forecast, the province could be in for a bit of a weather roller coaster.
According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac’s October forecast for southern Ontario, while September is expected to be cooler and wetter than usual, October should bring us back towards seasonal norms.
The periodical predicts that October will kick off on a chilly but sunny note, with cool and clear conditions expected from the 1 to 6. Things could turn a little more unsettled from October 7 to 14, when periods of rain are expected to bring some warmer temperatures before another cold spell rolls through.
Between October 15 and 21, southeastern Ontario is forecast to see plenty of rain, while areas farther west could experience a mix of rain and snow showers.
As Halloween approaches, the weather outlook is expected to split across the province. From October 22 through October 31, eastern Ontario could see a few showers, while southwestern parts of the province are forecast to enjoy sunnier and warmer conditions.
Overall, October’s average temperature in southern Ontario is expected to sit around 11 C, which is right around the seasonal norm. The region could see approximately 90 mm of precipitation throughout the month, with about 40 mm above average in eastern Ontario, but 20 mm below average in the west.
While summer may be winding down, Ontario’s fall forecast suggests we could be in for a season of changing temperatures, rainy stretches and plenty of classic unpredictable autumn weather.
