Known in Türkiye as “Pasta Canavarı” (the Cake Monster), Can Montana has earned a reputation for creating intricate cakes that look more like art than dessert. Now, he’s bringing that craftsmanship to Puuffy, a bakery just south of College Street on Spadina.
Montana’s résumé includes gold and silver medals at the Of Cake Başkent competitions in 2018 and a first-place finish at the Of Cake Istanbul International Master competition in 2019. But Puuffy is more than a showcase of awards. The chef-led bakery serves laminated pastries, croissants, coffee, ice cream, and custom cakes for birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations.
Those elaborate sculptural cakes are what earned Montana his nickname, and they remain a specialty for milestone occasions. Still, his philosophy is simple: excellence comes from doing ordinary things exceptionally well. That same attention to detail extends from his showpiece cakes to the bakery’s everyday pastries.
Sweet Specials
To celebrate its grand opening, Puuffy is offering special promotions throughout the week. On October 24 and 25, from noon to midnight, customers can enjoy the bakery’s pistachio affogato and croissant ice cream sandwich for $3 each. From October 26 to 31, all ice cream scoops will be available for $3. Visitors looking to sample some of Puuffy’s signature offerings may want to start with the pistachio affogato or the croissant ice cream sandwich, which pairs a scoop of ice cream with a freshly baked croissant.
Open from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, with hours extended to 11 p.m. from Friday through Sunday, Puuffy works equally well for a morning coffee or a late-night dessert run. Customers can visit in person, order through Uber Eats, or arrange custom cakes in advance.
