For those who travel often, it feels like airlines charge for anything and everything these days, from carry-on baggage to seat selection. Now, there’s even a fee for phone reservations with Canada’s flag carrier.
Air Canada has officially instated a new policy where a non-refundable booking fee of CA$30 (plus applicable taxes) per passenger will apply to new reservations made by phone with a customer service agent.
As of October 15, 2026, any new reservation completed through their Contact Centre will incur the extra charge per traveller. For example, if you’re booking a flight over the phone for a family of four, you can expect to pay an extra $120 plus tax on top of your standard fare.
The new fee applies strictly to new phone bookings, meaning you can easily avoid the extra cost by making your reservations online via Air Canada’s website or mobile app, where booking remains free of charge.
Passengers with specialized care or accessibility needs will be exempt from the fee, and no extra charge will apply if you are calling an agent for assistance with existing travel affected by delays, cancellations, or other schedule disruptions.
Make sure to bookmark their website or download the app before planning your next trip to keep those extra savings in your wallet!
