A massive cash incentive may soon arrive in your bank account if you’re willing to share your home with the world’s biggest soccer fans.
As the city gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Airbnb has officially launched its largest-ever host incentive program, offering Toronto residents over $1,000 just to sign up and welcome their first guests. With six matches scheduled to take place at BMO Field (temporarily renamed Toronto Stadium) starting June 12, the city is bracing for an influx of over 300,000 visitors, and the demand for a place to stay is already reaching a fever pitch.

The program is a strategic move to help house the footy fans descending on the city. While the initial sign-up bonus is a cool $1,015 CAD, the real goal is to tap into the massive earning potential of the tournament. According to recent data from Deloitte, Toronto hosts could rake in an average of $2,700 by renting out their space during the event, which is a pretty penny for anyone looking to offset the city’s rising cost of living.
“Demand for World Cup stays on Airbnb is surging, giving residents of host cities the opportunity to boost their incomes by sharing their homes and the communities they love,” says Dave Stephenson, Chief Business Officer at Airbnb.
“There’s truly never been a better time to become a host on Airbnb.”
There are a few catches to keep in mind before you start fluffing the pillows. The offer is exclusive to brand-new hosts who list an entire home, meaning you’ll have to be comfortable handing over your keys rather than just a spare room.
You’ll also need to navigate the city’s short-term rental rules, which include a primary residence requirement and a mandatory registration fee. As well, the first guest must complete their stay by July 31, 2026 to qualify for the bonus.
For those who don’t mind a temporary roommate (or a strategic vacation to Montreal while the crowds take over), the incentive provides a unique way to be part of the World Cup legacy. You can find the full eligibility details and sign-up portal on the Airbnb website.
