It appears that Ontario is home to a number of great Canadian tourist attractions… along with some not-so-great.
A new study conducted by Preply, an online language learning marketplace, compiled a list of the most worthwhile and the most disappointing destinations for tourists based on Tripadvisor reviews.
The experts sought to understand how some of Canada’s best-known attractions are truly perceived, in order to help potential visitors make more informed choices about where to spend their time when visiting.
After analyzing 131 tourist attractions with at least 1,000 reviews across 30 Canadian cities, towns, and areas, Preply ranked the top twenty in each category.
Based on a calculation of the ratio between four and five-star reviews and one, two, and three-star reviews, they were able to make their final rankings.
As it turns out, the top of both lists were in Ontario’s Niagara Falls, with Horseshoe Falls topping the study’s most worthwhile tourist attraction, and Marineland claiming the most disappointing spot.
Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls, scored an impressive 99.13% positive review score. With its stunning beauty and sheer power, it turned out to be a favourite among tourists, ranking higher than the overall Niagara Falls attraction which placed 14th on the list.
Horseshoe Falls was followed by Whistler’s Superfly Ziplines in second, and Newfoundland’s Gros Morne National Park in third.
Second and third on the list of most disappointing destinations were Montreal’s La Ronde and Victoria’s Chinatown.
