A new study has just ranked Toronto as one of the top cities in the world for millennials to move to, despite being among the most expensive to retire in and having the worst traffic in North America.
Comparethemarket, a UK price comparison website, published a survey of the top ten best cities around the globe for what they call the “most house-obsessed generation”, with Toronto snagging the tenth position.
Even considering rising mortgage interest rates and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, our city was the highest scoring and only North American city on the list, with the remainder found within Europe.
The study looked at 15 various factors across 60 global cities, grouped into five subcategories. These include work/life balance, recreation, affordability, equality, and service access.
According to the findings, Toronto is the fourth highest for equality, snagging a perfect score for anti-discrimination. It also came fourth for LGBTQ+ acceptance.
“Plus, residents are educated, with 92% obtaining at least a high-school diploma – the third highest on our list,” the article reads.
Not surprisingly, Toronto didn’t make the top five lists for affordability and work/life balance, but our high scores in the other categories managed to bring the city high enough to make the cut.
The study’s ten best cities in the world for millennials are:
- Amsterdam, Netherlands
- Stockholm, Sweden
- Prague, Czechia
- Dublin, Ireland
- Milan, Italy
- Zurich, Switzerland
- Helsinki, Finland
- Lyon, France
- London, U.K.
- Toronto, Canada
