Canada Day is just around the corner, and while many will be celebrating the occasion at one of the city’s many fireworks shows, pet-owners know how stressful those holidays can be for their furry companions.
This year, however, Toronto is offering an inclusive alternative that everyone can enjoy – even your pets!
On June 30, Pets Plus Us is hosting one of Canada’s first fully pet-friendly silent drone shows at Fort York’s Garrison Commons.
Designed to mimic the look of fireworks without the noise, this innovative show gives pets a chance to celebrate too. The event kicks off at 9:30 p.m., just in time to light up the night sky, without the loud booms and explosions that often sends dogs and cats into hiding.
As it is being held the evening before Canada Day, you won’t have to worry about real massive firework displays nearby on the same night.
In addition, an ice cream truck will be on-site serving up cold treats and pup cups, making it a perfect outing for both humans and their four-legged friends. Plus, pet owners have a chance to see their dog or cat featured in the show; all you have to do is simply submit a photo of your furry friend by June 23 for a chance to be included in the drone display.
Prior to the drone show, the ice cream truck will also be making stops across Toronto from June 27 to 30, spreading pet-friendly joy in the lead-up to the main event.
Toronto is home to about 25,000 licensed cats and 55,000 licensed dogs, though this number is likely a vast underestimation of the total number of pets in the city. A study by Rover indicates that fireworks can trigger fear and anxiety in nearly 67 per cent of dogs, and 68 per cent of cats.
With today’s modern technology, what pet parent wouldn’t want their beloved dog or cat to have a calmer evening?
