You turn onto a quiet laneway, and something changes. The air carries the unmistakable scent of lavender—fresh, herbal, and surprisingly crisp. As the road curves ahead, the view comes into focus. Twenty acres of rolling hills blanketed in vibrant purple.
Family-owned and operated since 2017, Kelso Lavender Farms has quietly transformed its rolling landscape into one of Ontario’s most beautiful summer destinations. More than 25,000 lavender plants spread across the property, with five varieties of English and French lavender carefully planted to extend the blooming season.
The timing is intentional. English lavender reaches its peak in late June and early July, while French lavender takes over through mid-July and into August. By July, the fields are at their most spectacular, creating a seemingly endless sea of purple across the hills.
The farm opens June 20 and welcomes visitors daily throughout the season, operating from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in June and August, with extended hours until 7 p.m. throughout July. Entry is managed through timed two-hour tickets, but once you’re wandering the fragrant fields, the experience feels anything but structured. The space is vast, the views are uninterrupted, and the pace encourages you to linger and enjoy the experience.
Picture-Perfect Views
The farm is designed to be as relaxing as it is beautiful. Photo installations are scattered throughout the property, including a giant Muskoka chair, a vintage white carriage, a floral arch, and even a piano set among the lavender. Combined with the rolling hills, they create countless unique views and photo opportunities.
By late July and into August, the landscape is further enhanced by the addition of sunflowers, which bring another layer of colour. Visitors can also take part in the U-Pick program, where they can harvest fresh lavender bundles to take home.
The farm’s boutique sells products made from lavender grown and distilled on-site, including essential oils, soaps, lotions, skincare products, and dried bouquets. Many visitors round out their visit with a scoop of organic lavender ice cream while enjoying the view of the fields.

Part of what makes the farm so appealing is its location. Set within the Niagara Escarpment region, it’s less than 30 minutes from Toronto Pearson Airport and under an hour from downtown Toronto. Visitors can easily pair their trip with nearby attractions like Kelso Conservation Area, Hilton Falls Conservation Area, Rattlesnake Point, or Crawford Lake Conservation Area.
Yet the lavender farm is more than enough reason to make the journey on its own. Rolling hills blanketed in purple stretch across the landscape, while the scent of lavender fills the air long before the fields come fully into view. Grown using all-natural farming methods without herbicides or pesticides, the farm reflects the care and vision of the family behind it—an idea that has continued to grow with every season.
Visit in June to catch the first blooms. Visit in July to see the lavender fields at their most spectacular. Return in August for the final weeks of the season, when sunflowers begin to add their golden colour to the landscape.
But regardless of when you visit, the experience is about more than the flowers. It’s about slowing down, breathing deeply, and spending time surrounded by natural beauty. Less than an hour from Toronto, this family-run farm offers a reminder that sometimes the best escapes are closer than you think.
