Running from September 25 to October 17, Oktoberfest spans 23 days, with events on select dates throughout its run. Visitors should check the schedule before planning their trip.
Downtown Kitchener becomes the centre of the celebration from October 9 to 11 as Willkommen Platz transforms King Street into a Bavarian-style village stretching from Queen Street to Kitchener City Hall. The area features a large Biergarten, authentic German food, and live entertainment throughout the weekend.
The Biergarten is free to enter, open to all ages, and dog-friendly. Festivities officially begin on Friday at noon with the traditional Keg Tapping ceremony.
Beyond Willkommen Platz, the festival offers activities for all ages. KIDtoberfest returns to Kitchener City Hall’s Rotunda from October 9 to 11 with free admission and family-friendly entertainment for children ages three to ten, including traditional music and dancing.
More Festival Highlights
Sports fans can take part in Hockey with Hans, a youth ball hockey tournament, while adults can join the 19+ Sticks and Steins tournament, which includes access to a VIP Biergarten. Five Festhallen clubs—Alpine, Concordia, Hubertushaus, Schwaben, and Transylvania—also host their own celebrations, each with a distinct atmosphere and entertainment lineup.
One of the festival’s signature events takes place on Thanksgiving Monday, October 12, when the annual Thanksgiving Day Parade takes over Weber Street at 9:30 a.m. Featuring floats, marching bands, and thousands of spectators, it has become one of Canada’s most recognizable Thanksgiving traditions. Reserved bleacher seating is available for $10.
Visitors can take advantage of free downtown parking after 5 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends. Since many events are outdoors, it’s a good idea to check the schedule in advance and dress for October weather.
