While there’s no shortage of ways to experience the majestic Niagara Falls (via helicopter above or a boat cruise into the mist), now, you can also get up close to the roaring cascade after dark.
Journey Behind the Falls has long been a bucket-list staple for day-trippers, but the new Journey at Night experience lets visitors venture deep below the earth to see the natural wonder bathed in a splash of vibrant colors.
First, you’ll take an elevator that descends 125 feet down through 130-year-old bedrock, opening up into a network of underground tunnels. As you navigate the paths, you’ll hear the thunderous roar of the Horseshoe Falls growing louder until you reach the viewing portals cut straight into the rock.
Finally, you’ll get to step onto the observation deck at the foot of the falls and take in their epic power – this time illuminated in brilliant colours under the night sky. If you time your visit during the fireworks season, you’ll also get an unmatched, front-row view of the show above the falls at 10 p.m.
Since it’s a self-guided experience, you can soak in the atmosphere at your own pace.

If you book in advance, adult admission starts at $33, while tickets for children ages 3 to 12 cost $21.50. Children under two can enter for free. For the time being, Journey at Night evening time slots are available throughout the summer.
And don’t worry about getting soaked; the complimentary poncho is there for a reason.
Journey at Night runs at the Table Rock Centre in Niagara Falls. Guests are recommended to arrive about 15 minutes before their reserved timeslot to ensure they don’t miss the fireworks. Tickets and full schedule details are available on the Niagara Parks website.
