After last week’s fluctuating weather, which even included a concerning tornado warning, temperatures have started to climb in the GTA in what meteorologists are calling “dangerously hot.”
The Weather Network is advising Ontario and Quebec residents to “avoid strenuous activities in the outdoors this week, especially if they are vulnerable to the heat, as temperatures and humidity will soar to dangerous values.”
While much of Canada will experience a heat wave reaching the mid-30s over the next several days, it could feel as hot as 45 C in Ontario and parts of the Greater Toronto Area.
The peak heat will hit between Tuesday and Thursday, and could possible break previous heat records as it climbs.
The last time it was this hot was on June 30, 2018, with humidex ratings measured at 45.6 C.
With the high heat will also increase the risk of daily thunderstorms, so take caution.
Even the nights will remain humid and stifling, hovering between 26 to 30 C. Stay indoors when possible and be sure to hydrate, avoiding strenuous work outdoors during the hottest hours of the day.
