With summer less than a month away, it’s almost time to head to your favourite local beach to soak up the summer sunshine!
As of June 1 2024, Toronto’s ten supervised public beaches will officially reopen for the season, with lifeguards on duty from 10:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. daily.
Swimming at these locations is only recommended when lifeguards are on duty, and should be within the supervised swimming areas marked by red and yellow flags.
The ten beaches in Toronto with lifeguards are as follows:
- Bluffer’s Beach
- Centre Island Beach
- Cherry/Clarke Beach
- Gibraltar Point Beach
- Hanlan’s Point Beach
- Kew-Balmy Beach
- Marie Curtis Park Beach
- Sunnyside Beach
- Ward’s Island Beach
- Woodbine Beach
Eight of the ten beaches have also received The Blue Flag award, indicating they have high standards for water quality, environmental management, environmental education, and safety. These are all of the above except for Sunnyside Beach and Marie Curtis Park Beach.
You can see the facilities at each beach on the City of Toronto website here.
Later this season, Toronto will also be getting a brand new man-made sandy beach located in the city’s east end off the Martin Goodman Trail by the entrance to Tommy Thompson Park. Leslie Lookout Park will feature forested dunes and a lookout tower, which peers out over the entire length of the Ship Channel.
Leslie Lookout Park does not yet have an official opening date, but is set to open sometime this summer.
