A car-free playground is taking over an old Toronto airplane runway this weekend.
For its fifth consecutive year, Play on the Runway event is returning to the YZD Runway for just one weekend, inviting guests to bike, skate, scooter, or roll down the pedestrian playground.

Spanning a full kilometre of completely open space, the car-free zone is thoughtfully designed to offer something special for all ages, abilities, and interests.
The weekend-long celebration will feature a packed lineup of exciting activities, including thrilling roller-dancing showcases, mesmerizing hula performances, and live musical sets. Look up, and you will also catch a breathtaking aerial display as the Toronto Kite Fliers Club fills the sky with giant, colourful kites. If you don’t have your own gear, you can rent a pair of roller skates on-site, test out the latest electric bikes, or even take a skateboarding lesson right on the tarmac.

The entirely free event is the perfect summer outing for families and friends looking to discover something new in the city. After working up an appetite, grab a bite from the diverse lineup of local food trucks parked on-site.
Play on the Runway will take over the YZD Runway on July 11 and July 12. You can find more details and the full event schedule on the official YZD website.
