Ontario summers are short but sweet, and for a unique adventure this season, St. Marys Quarry is the kind of road trip that’s well worth the drive.
Just over two hours from Toronto, this former limestone quarry has been drawing swimmers for generations. After closing as an active quarry in 1920, the site was transformed into a public swimming destination in the mid-1940s and has remained a favourite ever since.
Often recognized as Canada’s largest outdoor freshwater swimming pool, the quarry offers the perfect mix of laid-back relaxation and adrenaline-pumping fun.
Spend the day swimming in crystal-clear water, unwinding on the floating dock, or racing down the waterslide. If you’re after a little more excitement, tackle the 25-foot water trampoline or take the plunge from one of the quarry’s cliff-jumping areas when water levels permit.
While you won’t find a sandy beach here, there’s plenty of grassy shoreline to lay out a towel, enjoy a picnic, or relax in the shade between swims. The onsite Canteen also serves snacks and drinks, making it easy to refuel throughout the day.
Adding even more excitement this summer, the Super Splash Waterpark has returned with a massive floating inflatable playground. Packed with climbing walls, obstacle courses, and towering features like the 14-foot Ice Tower and 12-foot Action Tower slide, it’s a hit with adventurous kids and adults alike.
Access to Super Splash costs an additional $29.50 per person for a two-hour session on top of regular quarry admission. Visitors can also take advantage of discounted evening pricing, with water park admission dropping to $20 after 5 p.m.
All visitors must reserve tickets online before arriving. General admission to St. Marys Quarry is $7.50 for adults and $5 for children, with Super Splash passes sold separately.
The St. Marys Quarry will officially open for the season on June 26, with daily hours running from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can find full registration details and ticket pricing on the Town of St. Marys website.
Besides the quarry itself, you can also explore the historic “Stone Town” of St. Marys, making it the perfect detour when travelling down from Toronto.
