Nathan Phillips Square looks a little different this weekend. Halal Bites Festival has taken over Toronto‘s most central public square from May 15 to 17. They brought one of the most genuinely diverse food lineups at any free outdoor festival the city has hosted this spring. Organized by Evolve Hub Association, this is Toronto’s only dedicated halal food festival, and the 2026 edition is the largest yet, with 50,000 attendees expected across the three days.
The food is the main attraction. Unlike most multicultural festivals that feature only a few halal vendors, this event is built entirely around halal cuisine, making the variety the real highlight. Expect Middle Eastern street food, South Asian favourites, fusion dishes, and dessert vendors serving treats worth lining up for.
The best way to do it is as a tasting tour. Try smaller portions from different vendors, keep moving through the market, and circle back for the dish you cannot stop thinking about.
What They Offer
Beyond eating, the programming is worth planning around. A live cooking show runs throughout the weekend where chefs demonstrate dishes and explain the traditions behind them.
Art installations and an on-site gallery showcase the visual cultures of the communities represented at the festival. Live cultural performances take over the main stage, and hands-on cooking workshops let you do more than just watch.
Local artisans and businesses also have stalls running alongside the food vendors, selling spices, kitchenware, and food-related goods that you will not find at a regular market.
Entry is free all three days. Friday runs from 6pm to 10pm, Saturday from 12pm to 10pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm. The Saturday afternoon session is the most relaxed time to go if you want to see the cooking show and still have room to wander. Friday evening fills up faster. Nathan Phillips Square is steps from the Osgoode subway station. There is no excuse for not going at least once this weekend.
