The annual North America’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2026 was just unveiled last week, and three Toronto dining destinations have earned a coveted spot among the very best across the continent. The rankings are a huge win for the city’s diverse culinary scene, showing the rest of the world what locals have known for years.
Leading the Toronto pack is Little Italy’s Quetzal, which clinched an impressive number eight spot. Known for its upscale regional Mexican cuisine, the restaurant crafts its dishes entirely over an open flame using Canadian ingredients. Besides its smoky, flame-fired menu, guests can also sip on imaginative cocktails featuring artisanal mezcals and tequilas.

Next on the list is Queen West favourite Edulis at number 25. Operated by a dedicated husband-and-wife team, the list highlights that this charming neighbourhood gem is celebrated for its genuine hospitality and an evolving menu that highlights seasonal, wild, and foraged Canadian ingredients.

Rounding out the city’s big winners is Mhel, a buzzy gastro-izakaya that secured the 28th spot. The restaurant focuses on small plates made with seasonal produce all served on ceramic dishware from Korea and Japan. As for drinks, the cocktail menu is sake-dominant, though has a range of sparkling tea alternatives. This beloved destination completes an unforgettable trio of local spots that are putting Toronto dining on the map.

While you will definitely want to book a table well in advance to experience these world-class meals, you can also look just outside the city for more award-winning flavours. Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Lincoln ranked an incredible third overall, making it a spectacular choice for a quick culinary road trip.
