It’s already that time of year! North America’s largest Caribbean celebration is about to take over the city streets once again, bringing with it a party you won’t soon forget.
For 59 years now, the Toronto Caribbean Carnival (previously best known as Caribana) has been considered as one of the city’s most anticipated summer traditions.
This year’s celebration kicks off on Thursday, July 30, with a weekend packed full of steelpan rhythms, boat cruises, and nightlife events to follow. On Thursday evening, the beloved King & Queen Showcase will take over Lamport Stadium, where beautifully intricate costumes compete in a stunning visual display.
The main event, however, takes over Lakeshore Boulevard on Saturday, August 1. The world-famous Grand Parade features thousands of masqueraders in brilliant feathered and rhinestoned costumes dancing alongside booming sound trucks delivering soca, dancehall, and calypso rhythms. Spanning kilometres along the waterfront, the parade hosts over a million spectators for an unforgettable day under the sun.
The Grand Parade will kick off from Exhibition Place on Saturday, August 1, running along Lakeshore Boulevard West from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The grounds will be open until 10 p.m. You can find the full weekend schedule, including ticketed events, parties, and steelpan competitions, on the official Toronto Caribbean Carnival website.
