Toronto is in for a sweltering start to summer, with extreme heat set to blanket the city starting this weekend.
According to The Weather Network, temperatures will begin to soar by Sunday, June 22, marking the beginning of what could be one of the hottest stretches of the season.
A solid eight-day period of 25-degree weather is showing in the forecast for Toronto, which hasn’t occurred since September 2024 marking the end of a 270-day heat drought streak.
Sunday’s forecast shows temperatures climbing to a scorching 33 C, but with the humidex, it will feel more like a staggering 43 C. While afternoon thunderstorms may offer temporary relief, the intense heat is expected to persist throughout the day.
By Monday, conditions will intensify even further, with daytime highs expected to reach 39 C. When factoring in the humidity, it could feel as hot as 43 C once again.
The heatwave will continue into Tuesday, with temperatures hitting 33 C and feeling closer to 41 C, marking three consecutive days with humidex values above 40°C.
The extreme heat will finally ease up by mid-week, with Wednesday’s forecast calling for a high of 26 C, with humidex values around 32 C.
Toronto residents are advised to take precautions, stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak hours, and ensure air conditioning systems are working properly. Health officials also recommend checking on vulnerable individuals such as seniors and young children during periods of high heat.
After a long winter and cooler-than-usual spring, summer is coming in hot!
