There are some lists Toronto prides itself for a high ranking on, from being one of the best destinations for sports and music fans to one of the world’s most interesting places; unfortunately, a new list ranking the worst cities for bed bugs in Canada is not one of them.
Orkin Canada has just released their annual “bed buggiest cities” list, with Toronto in number one for the seventh year in a row.
The pest control company gathered their findings based on the number of commercial and residential bed bug treatments they performed in 2023, from January 1 through December 31.
Canada’s bed buggiest cities for 2023 are as follows:
- Toronto
- Sudbury
- Oshawa
- Hamilton
- Ottawa
- Vancouver
- Winnipeg
- St. John’s
- Sault Ste. Marie
- Scarborough
Vancouver improved this year, falling from second to sixth place. A number of Ontario cities climbed, however, with Sudbury taking second and Oshawa claiming third.
While the newest ranking is no cause to panic, bed bugs have been spotted before on the TTC, and Orkin recommends always keeping an eye out for the pests, as they are known to be extremely resilient and can get from place to place almost unnoticed.
If you happen to spot a bed bug, immediately washing and drying your fabric on the hottest setting is recommended. If there’s more than one, it’s time to call a professional!
