Westfield Heritage Village in Rockton is a living history museum where more than 35 restored buildings from 1775 to 1925 were relocated from across Southern Ontario. This led to the creation of a charming historic village. Wander past a general store, blacksmith forge, church, schoolhouse, and the beautifully preserved 1896 Jerseyville Railway Station.
The station is instantly recognizable as Bright River Station from the beloved Anne of Green Gables films. Specifically, where Anne first arrives by train before making her journey to Green Gables. Fans of Anne with an E may also recognize parts of the village, which were used as filming locations for the Netflix series.
Westfield Heritage Village began as a passion project in 1961. Two high school teachers purchased land to save historic buildings from demolition. Their vision opened to the public in 1964 and has continued to grow ever since.
Historic Charm
From mid-May through the end of October, the village opens its historic buildings on Sundays and holidays, when costumed interpreters bring the past to life with demonstrations and guided experiences. Beyond the village, 204 hectares of conservation land offer nearly eight kilometres of scenic trails through forests and meadows. The grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset, so you can enjoy a picnic or explore the trails even when the heritage buildings are closed.
Admission is just $5.50 per person on open days, while children ages five and under get in free, making it one of Ontario’s best-value day trips. Pack a picnic, bring your camera, and get ready to feel like you’ve stepped back in time.
