As the year’s longest night rolls in, Kensington Market is set to glow once again with fire, music, and ancient ritual.
The beloved Kensington Market Winter Solstice Festival returns on Sunday, December 21, 2025, drawing thousands into the streets to mark the turning of the season and the slow return of the light.

Presented by Red Pepper Spectacle Arts, the annual celebration transforms one of Toronto’s most eclectic neighbourhoods into an immersive winter spectacle. As night falls, the market fills with towering hand-crafted puppets, stilt walkers, fire breathers, and dancers, all to the sounds of live electric music.
The procession winds its way through the neighbourhood before ending with a dramatic Fire Finale at Alexandra Park, followed by a community feast to honour the many volunteers who bring the festival to life each year.

Unlike a typical parade, the Winter Solstice Festival thrives on participation. Visitors are encouraged to join the magic by bringing noisemakers, lanterns, and glowing accessories to help “call back the sun” during the march.
For those who want a keepsake from the night, hand-made lanterns will be available for purchase for $30 starting at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Oxford Street and Augusta Avenue. Since the event takes place outdoors on the coldest night of the year, warm layers and a flexible, go-with-the-flow mindset are highly recommended.

Festivities begin in the afternoon, with lantern sales running until 6:30 p.m. Parade assembly starts at 6 p.m., followed by the First Light ceremony at 6:30 p.m. and the official parade kickoff at 7 p.m. The route wraps up at Alexandra Park (275 Bathurst Street) for the final fire performances.
The festival is free and open to all ages, making it a cherished winter tradition for families and longtime locals alike. While no ticket is required, donations to Red Pepper Spectacle Arts are welcomed and help ensure this unique celebration continues to shine year after year.
