After a month-long closure due to a worker’s strike, Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario is finally open again and is offering free admission to the public for three separate days this week.
On March 26, unionized staff members walked off the job, leading to the gallery to close indefinitely; however, the union announced yesterday they have accepted the terms of a collective agreement.
To celebrate and welcome visitors back, the AGO is offering free admission on Wednesday May 1, Saturday May 4, and Sunday May 5.
The gallery will also be launching a new program called First Wednesday Free, where a limited amount of free general admission tickets will be offered to the public from 6 – 9 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month.
This week, you can check out the AGO’s various exhibitions, including KAWS: Family, which has been extended until August 5 by popular demand, as well as their newest exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800.
Featuring over 230 objects including royal portraits, cabinetry, textiles, and ceramics, the new exhibit highlights the contributions of women to the visual arts of Europe.
The AGO is open from 10:30 – 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 10:30 – 5:30 p.m. the remaining days with the exception of being closed on Mondays.
You can reserve your free tickets on their website.
