Upper Canada Village’s sparkling lights are shining brightly into the night during the 2020 holiday season.
The 2020 holidays are looking brighter and merrier in Ontario thanks to this year’s edition of Alight At Night, Eastern Ontario’s largest outdoor light festival. Held at Upper Canada Village just east of Morrisburg, the popular family tradition is returning for its 20th year, with over one million lights glimmering into the dark winter nights.
A visit to Alight at Night is estimated to take approximately 40 minutes and will be filled with awe-inspiring holiday sights and activities to get you in the festive mood. For instance, you can explore the village’s gorgeously decorated heritage buildings, trees, and fences or meet and take pictures with a Victorian-era Santa Claus in his winter workshop (through a window!) during your visit.
While some of the usual activities such as the life-size toy train rides, visits to the bakery, horse-drawn wagon rides, and old-fashioned carol singing have been paused this year, you’ll still be able to check out the dazzling Sound and Light Show at Crysler Hall and enjoy enhanced visual storytelling light displays and holiday tunes at the Village Cheese Factory and at Christ Church.
Tickets are already on sale (advance online purchase only) for time slots from 5 pm – 9 pm and dates are selling out fast. The dates with tickets currently on sale include December 17–23 and December 26–January 2, 2021, as well as an accessibility night on December 16. General admission is $14 plus HST (children 4 and under enter free), and parking is available at no charge on-site. Of course, the festival has been carefully modified so you can experience the festival in a safe, socially-distanced manner, without comprising the typical fun and cheer the festival is known for providing.
One reviewer on the event’s website writes:
The lights of the village over the Christmas Holliday is amazing. So much work, so well done. The kids love it and of course seeing Santa. Well worth making the trip with the family every year.”
