Daylight Saving Time returns this weekend, so don’t forget to set your clocks one hour forward on Saturday night!
3 a.m. on Sunday, March 10 marks the official start to DST for 2024, and in Toronto, this means the sun will rise closer to 7:45 a.m. and set around 7:20 p.m.
Unfortunately, it also means we’ll all lose an hour of sleep on Sunday morning, so if you have any plans, be sure to plan accordingly so you aren’t accidentally late!
This year, Daylight Saving Time comes nine days before the first day of spring on March 19.
While clocks “spring forward” this weekend, they will also “fall back” again on November 3, where we get to regain that hour of sleep lost.
Not everyone is a fan of the bi-annual event, with the Ontario government having passed legislation back in 2020 to stay on Daylight Saving Time year-round, getting rid of the time-change.
The bill, despite having garnered tons of support, has not proceeded, as it was contingent on both the province of Quebec and state of New York also remaining on DST.
It looks like for now we’ll have to continue the tradition of losing and gaining sleep twice a year.
