It’s about time… Daylight Savings Time, that is.
Changing your clocks twice a year may soon be a thing of the past in Ontario following the latest bill passing in the provincial legislature. Bill 214, also known as the Time Amendment Act was unanimously passed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario during the third reading on November 25, 2020. This means that the province is one step closer to having Daylight Savings Time become a permanent year-round fixture.
The Time Amendment Act was originally tabled by Jeremy Roberts, MPP for Ottawa West – Nepean in October 2020. Once in force, this newly passed legislation would permanently eliminate the biannual practice of moving clocks forward or back in Ontario. However, the bill still needs to receive Royal Assent from Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor, and no changes will be enacted until the Government of Quebec and New York State approve similar laws since the regions are closely connected.
