With the summer season being so short in Canada, we’re always looking for fun and unique things to do to make the most of it while the weather is warm!
One experience to definitely add to your checklist is tubing through Elora Gorge, which is just under a two hour drive from the city.
Located within the Elora Gorge Conservation Area, the gorge opens up each summer from mid-June until Labour Day for a myriad of activities, one of them being floating down the river in an inflatable tube.
While parts of the river are calm and gentle, thrill seekers can also get their fair share of adrenaline in the white water rapids. You’ll get to admire the surrounding towering cliffs during your journey, and cool off in the water on a hot summer day.
The entire tubing run spans about 2 km long, and there aren’t any exit points once you begin the adventure.
Children can participate, but must be accompanied with an adult and be at least 122cm tall.
Participants are also limited to one person per tube, and must wear a helmet in the event you get ejected from your tube in turbulent waters.
The gorge is open for tubing daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You are welcome to bring your own equipment, which must include a helmet and PFD. If you don’t own your own, they have equipment for rent onsite.
Keep in mind tubing through the gorge could also be closed for various reasons, such as if the river levels are too high following a heavy rainfall.
Tickets for tubing start at $17.70, with the equipment package running for roughly $54.
While you’re in the area, you can also check out the Elora Quarry for a swim! The abandoned quarry is a popular swimming hole in the summer months, boasting a sandy beach, striking limestone cliffs, and even a hiking trail that goes around the perimeter.
