Toronto already has the worst traffic in all of North America, and it’s about to get even more terrible this spring.
The Gardiner Expressway, a main artery into and out of the city, will be shutting down two lanes from Strachan to Dufferin, which is expected to last three years.
The city is commencing the Gardiner Expressway Strategic Rehabilitation Plan, which will work to repair the aging roads and infrastructure.
One lane in each direction will be closed once work begins, which is anticipated to begin in late March.
While the website notes the project will ideally optimize delivery and minimize disruption, it states “major traffic impacts are expected during construction.”
The closures would be the second phase out of a six-part plan, which city council approved almost a decade ago.
The entire Gardiner’s rehabilitation is expected to be completed by 2030.
