After years and years of waiting since they initially revealed their foray into Canada, Nobu has finally confirmed their Toronto restaurant will be opening later this summer.
The beloved Japanese restaurant founded in 1994 by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro and Meir Teper will open this August, 2024 at 25 Mercer Street, with the Nobu Hotel opening to guests in spring 2025.
Originally announced back in 2017, six years of construction followed suit of the 45-storey twin tower complex downtown.
With an interior design by local company Studio Munge, Nobu Toronto will combine Japanese-inspired concepts with Canadian craftsmanship.
The restaurant will span across 10,000 square feet, two levels, and have 278 seats for guests in addition to separate bar and lounge spaces, two private dining rooms, a sushi bar, and outdoor terrace.
You’ll find a 28-foot bronze chainmail Lasvit chandelier as the bar’s main centrepiece, resembling a Japanese kimono. Illuminated pillars, a sculptural space called “The Great Wave”, and outdoor patio inspired by urban Japanese gardens will also add to the sensual, dark atmosphere, with the levels connected via a grand staircase.
Canadian ceramic artist Andrea Braescu will also have a suspended light and porcelain art installation to admire on the second floor.
For a more interactive dining experience, guests can also grab a seat at the second floor’s sushi bar, where they can see the sushi chefs work.
The highly anticipated restaurant will be serving all its beloved staples, including the Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, Rock Shrimp Tempura, and Black Cod Miso. To drink, opt for their signature Lychee Martini or Oni Negroni.
Unique to its Toronto location, Nobu will also have several city-specific menu items, which celebrate Toronto’s multicultural food scene created by Executive Chef Alex Tzatzos.
