Get those shovels ready – Ontario is once again preparing for a significant snowstorm that could total 60 centimetres or more by this weekend.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued warnings for regions stretching from the northern GTA to Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, and eastward to Belleville, beginning Thursday morning lasting through Friday morning.
The lake-effect snow will be accompanied with northwest winds gusting up to 60 km/h, creating potentially dangerous travel conditions due to blowing snow.
While Toronto itself isn’t included in the alert, if you have travel plans outside the city, you may want to reschedule or take extreme caution.
The ECCC warns of “locally heavy snowfall with accumulations up to 60 cm” and “poor visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.” Visibility could drop to near zero at times, making driving hazardous.
Ontario isn’t the only province with weather warnings for this coming weekend; 6 other provinces and territories are also bracing for severe conditions, including Newfoundland, Quebec, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, British Columbia, and Yukon.
It seems like the Farmers’ Almanac predictions for this winter are coming true.
Stay safe this weekend!
