This winter in Ontario had an overall mild start, but it’s been catching up to us in recent weeks with the arrival of a frigid Polar Vortex and several rounds of snowfall.
As we look forward to spring which arrives on March 19 this year, The Farmers’ Almanac has just released their Extended Spring Weather Forecast.
Unfortunately, it looks like Ontario is in for a messy spring season with a delayed start, warning that warmer weather will take its time to arrive in Canada for 2024.
The almanac states that the start of spring in Ontario will kick off with stormy conditions and fluctuating temperatures, which they coined a “Polar Coaster” bringing a combination of heavy rain and snow to the province, as well as many other areas of the country.
For anyone planning to travel over the Easter long weekend, take caution as Ontario may also see a delayed heavy snowstorm as March turns to April.
Winter conditions are predicted to last throughout most of April, particularly to the east in Quebec and the Maritimes where a late April snowfall is expected.
It also states that cooler weather and showers may last into May throughout Eastern Canada.
While not entirely reliable due to its extremely long lead-time, the almanac can usually point to general weather patterns and trends, self-claiming an overall accuracy of around 80%.
For our sake, we’re hoping that Wiarton Willie thinks otherwise.
