It’s common knowledge that Toronto serves up some pretty good pizza, and now, yet another local spot was just awarded first place at the 2025 International Pizza Expo!
Montreal-based Pizzeria NO.900 only just opened its first Toronto location in the Beaches neighbourhood this past summer, and if you haven’t yet been by to try a slice, maybe taking home 1st place in the prestigious Neapolitan Pizza category will convince you.
The International Pizza Expo, held annually in Las Vegas, draws the world’s best pizza makers and is considered one of the industry’s most esteemed events.
Executive Chef Mirko D’Agata of Pizzeria NO.900’s classic marinara pizza impressed this year’s panel of international judges, beating out nearly 100 top pizza makers. Not only that, but NO.900’s R&D Chef Fiodar Huminski also earned 3rd place in the Traditional American Pizza category.
The restaurant sets itself apart with certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN), the official authority on authentic Neapolitan pizza. Staying true to AVPN standards, the pizzeria cooks its pizzas at 900 degrees Fahrenheit for exactly 90 seconds.
All ingredients are also sourced from trusted producers in Quebec, Ontario, and Italy. Its pizza dough, crafted with low-protein 00 flour, undergoes a careful 24-hour fermentation process before being baked in a hand-made Marra Forni oven.
Their other standout ingredient is their red sauce, made with the organic Costa Amalfitana tomato, cultivated in the nutrient-rich soil of Tramonti’s mountains in Italy, bringing a vibrant and authentic flavor to every bite.
NO.900’s president, Alexandre Brunet, states “We’re proof that Canada has good pizza. We are proud to see our passion and expertise recognized on an international scale.”
If you’d like to try their award-winning pizza, head to their restaurant at 1987 Queen Street East. You’ll find a menu of traditional white and red pizzas, alongside charcuterie, fresh mozzarella, burrata, and salads.
