Shake Shack lovers, get ready – you might finally be getting a new location near you!
The American burger chain just announced it plans to open six new locations within the GTA over the next year, after finding much success following its foray into the Canadian market.
After opening its first restaurant at Yonge and Dundas Square back in June 2024, it has since expanded to Union Station and Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
Now, a new location at Kitchen Hub Castlefield in York has just opened, and Mississauga residents can look forward to the grand opening at Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga on August 19.
Later this fall, two more locations will open at Yonge and Eglinton in midtown and Vaughan Mills. Jumping ahead to 2026, Shake Shack will expand downtown with a new restaurant in the buzzing King West neighbourhood, followed by another at the intersection of Yonge and Bloor.
According to Billy Richmond, Business Director of Shake Shack Canada, the decision to expand so aggressively in the GTA comes from the overwhelming response from local Toronto-area guests. “The energy we’ve seen from Canadian guests since day one has been incredible,” he stated in a press release.
“Our intention is to deliver high-quality dining experiences that stand the test of time, and this GTA expansion sets the stage for Shake Shack’s long-term success in Canada. With plans already in motion, we’re excited to bring the Shack experience to more cities across Canada in the near future.”
Not only will more people be able to try Shake Shack’s famous smash burgers and crinkle-cut fries; the expansion also represents a major investment in the local economy, creating over 400 new jobs in the region.
Like the other locations that have opened since 2024, each of these six new locations will feature unique art and design to discover.
At Square One, the restaurant will feature a mural by Blake Angeconeb, an Anishinaabe artist from Treaty 3 territory. Meanwhile, the upcoming Yonge and Eglinton Shack will feature artwork by Canadian artist Kirsten McCrea.
Guests can also anticipate more local flavours, collaborations, and a distinctly Canadian Shack experience. We can’t wait!
