It might not feel like spring just yet in Toronto, but we promise, warmer weather is on the way!
While Niagara Falls might be one of the most popular destinations for Torontonians to go to experience a natural wonder, did you know you could also get up close and personal to its powerful whitewater rapids?
The White Water Walk is a must to add to your list the next time you visit Niagara Falls, bringing you along the edge of the roaring Niagara River.
Extending a quarter-mile long, you’ll get a first-hand lesson in the river’s sheer raw power and peril, as these Class 6 rapids are some of the wildest in North America. Trillions of gallons of turquoise-tinted water are forced into the accelerating trough, making for an exhilarating thrill and incredible photo op.
After you descend 70 metres via an elevator, you’ll arrive at the base of the Niagara Gorge and begin your self-guided journey. Visitors typically spend around an hour exploring the boardwalk, with viewing platforms to stop and take in the scenic rapid views which flow by at a speed of 48 km/hr.
You’ll also learn about the geology, plant, and animal life in the area, including the gorge’s 410-million-year-old rock layers.
You’ll find the White Water Walk just 4 km north of Niagara Falls, and within walking distance from the Niagara Falls Ontario train and bus stations – perfect for a day trip destination this spring!
The White Water Walk will open for the season this year on Saturday, April 19 (weather dependent) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
Tickets cost $19 for adults and $12.50 for kids from 3 – 12 years old, with infants under the age of 2 free of charge.
While in the area, there are a number of other attractions to visit for a thrill! Zip around the elevated racetrack at Niagara Speedway, or zipline overlooking the falls!
