A brand-new Zellers is opening in North York this month as part of the retailer’s Ontario expansion, marking another chapter in its Canadian comeback.
A legendary Canadian retailer is about to bring a dose of retail nostalgia to the city.
For generations, Zellers was a staple of the Canadian shopping landscape before shuttering most stores across the country in 2013. Now over a decade later, the beloved brand is making its highly anticipated national comeback with a fresh, modernized concept.
Following a wildly successful debut in Edmonton last fall, Zellers has confirmed its initial Ontario rollout with Toronto first on the list. Stepping away from the sprawling department store footprints of the past, this reimagined “Zellers 3.0” model focuses on a sleek, highly curated, and budget-friendly shopping experience.
The first standalone Ontario location will open in North York at 80 Orfus Rd. on Thursday, June 18. The 25,000-square-foot space is designed to be vibrant and fast-paced, offering constant new product drops. For those outside the city, a second location is already under construction at Windsor’s Tecumseh Mall, scheduled to open this July.
The new shelves will look a little different than you remember, blending everyday affordability with a surprisingly elevated aesthetic. Visitors can expect an evolving mix of lifestyle, home, and fashion categories, including curated home decor, a mix of streetwear and nostalgic brands including Adidas, Dickies, Juicy Couture, and Von Dutch, an expanded Disney apparel collection, specialty grocery offerings, and a curated selection of toys, puzzles, and seasonal summer gear.
Zeddy, the cherished Zellers mascot, will also officially be making his comeback this summer. The adorable bear will return to shelves as a plush toy, anchoring a brand-new national partnership dedicated to supporting pediatric oncology camps across Canada.
The North York grand opening on June 18 is just the first phase of a much larger national rollout, with retail organizers hinting at more location announcements later this year.
