For those who have an alternative means of transportation of getting into and out of the city, it might be a good time to GO Train, subway, bike, or anything BUT drive if you use the Gardiner Expressway often.
The city has commenced the first phase of the Gardiner Expressway Strategic Rehabilitation Plan as of Monday, March 25, in which one lane in each direction between Strachan and Dufferin have been closed while they work to repair the 60-year-old roads.
Due to the effects of the highway’s age, heavy usage, weather, and salt, the repair work is deemed necessary, according to the Rehabilitation Plan.
Starting with the eastbound lanes, one lane in both directions will be impacted at a time. The eastbound on-ramp from Lake Shore Boulevard just east of Jameson Avenue will also be closed.
The project is slated to last 3 years, approximately until April 2027.
Although the city’s website states the plan will optimize delivery and minimize disruption, it writes that “major traffic impacts are expected during construction.”
Toronto already has the worst traffic in all of North America, and this won’t help our cause.
