From deciding which New Year’s Eve party to attend to where to watch this year’s fireworks show, one thing you won’t have to worry about on the last day of 2023 is paying for public transit – as several options will be free all night long!
Per tradition, the TTC will be offering free all-night service to riders across the city after 7 p.m. on December 31 until 8 a.m. on January 1.
The TTC partnered with wine company Colby to cover transit fares in an effort to discourage driving under the influence, and instead, opting for public transportation to get to and from safely.
GO Transit and the UP Express will also offer free bus and train rides after 7 p.m. for the first time ever, a new initiative with Forty Creek Whisky. GO plans to add more late-evening trains into Union Station after midnight as well.
If you’re going to and from Toronto Pearson airport, the last UP Express train will leave Union Station at 11 p.m., and from Pearson at 11:27 p.m.
The following extra trains will be departing from Union Station on January 1 after midnight:
- Barrie Line: three additional trains will run between 12:55 a.m. and 4:10 a.m.
- Stouffville Line: three additional trains will run between 12:40 a.m. and 4:25 a.m.
- Richmond Hill Line: one additional train will run northbound at 1:10 a.m.
- Lakeshore East and West GO Lines: trains will depart regularly from Union Station from 12:30 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.
- Kitchener Line: trains will depart Union Station regularly from 12:35 a.m. until 5:35 a.m.
- Milton Line: two additional trains will head westbound to Milton GO at 1:25 a.m. and 3:55 a.m.
