Toronto seems to keep building its reputation among other global world class cities, from being ranked as one of the best cities for millennials or for remote work.
Now, it has another achievement to add to its collection, being ranked as one of the coolest cities in North America in a new study by Canada Sports Betting.
How exactly do you determine a city’s level of cool? Well, according to the website, they analyzed 50 of the most populous cities across Canada and the U.S. in the following eight key categories:
- Cultural and Arts Scene
- Lifestyle and Recreation
- Population/Residents
- Dining and Nightlife
- Social and Community Engagement
- Tech and Connectivity
- Environmental Sustainability
- Trendiness and Media Coverage
Using 19 relevant metrics, the site then created an index with a top score of 100; the higher the score, the “cooler the city”, it states. Some of the categories had a greater influence than others, weighting sub-categories like upcoming sporting events higher than Google searches, for example.
According to their findings, here are the top 10 coolest cities in North America:
- New York City
- Washington
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco
- Portland
- Toronto
- Chicago
- Seattle
- Boston
- Philadelphia
When it comes to Canada alone, Toronto ranked first, followed by Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, and Edmonton respectively.
Toronto received a score of 40.94 out of 100, and got its cool factor from several metrics including its food scene, downtown city vibe, and active music and arts set up.
Our city ranked the second highest in the ‘Dining and Lifestyle’ category, praised for its large amount of coffee shops and 78 Michelin Guide restaurants.
With over 14,000 startups in the city, it also received high points for the ‘Tech and Creativity’ metric.
“Like many of the cities in the top 10, Toronto is also a fantastic location to catch a sports fixture, with over 218 events coming up over the next 12 months and teams such as the Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Toronto Blue Jays performing at the highest level,” Canada Sports Betting wrote.
Previously being ranked as the best city for sports and music tours, this comes at no surprise!
